Khamaj is a melody that finds way into the hearts of music lovers through folk music, popular film songs, Bhajans, Thumri as well as Khayal and Dhrupad. Khamaj. This course offers compositions based on Raga Khamaj, a composer’s favourite Raga. Along with a Guru Shloka, a Guru Vandana Bandish sung with interesting Sargams, the beautiful and timeless Bhajan Vaishnav Janato based on this Raga has been included. In addition a Bhajan on lord Krishna is learnt.

  

Course Format

This course has 12 instructor led sessions, each session is of 45 minutes duration.

  

Objectives

  • To learn the compositions with attention to the melody
  • To learn the aspects of Laya and Taal
  • To learn about the composers of the songs learnt
  • To do necessary vocal exercises with seven Shuddh Swaras in Aakar 
  • To practice Raga Khamaj Aaroh Avaroh structure with basic patternning exercises

  

This course does not define a skill based pre requisites; the colloection of songs is based on Hindustani Music. It is suggested that students complete the courses HVS101,102, 103 and  continue learning in the suggested sequence.
